access from the Rhynd Road, on the north side of the River Earn, ½
mile from the center of the village. This is a sheltered and stunningly
beautiful trout fishery, the old boating lake of the Moncrieffe estate.
While you fish you can see abundant wildlife, including the inevitable
heron, in the varied forestry surrounding the water. Before leaving complete
the circuit of the loch but step quietly or you'll disturb the deer in
the trees on the north side, then enjoy a light refreshment on the verandah
of the boating lodge.
The Earn, one of Scotland's major rivers, its closest bridge to the sea carried the coaching road from Perth to Edinburgh and led to the settlement which is Bridge of Earn. There are several river walks, but the most accessible is to leave the village, going north, and take the steps down to the left hand side of the bridge. You then turn right along the river and come back into the village on the Old Edinburgh road which will lead you to The Cyprus Inn.
